EXCLUSIVE: West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches, as his £70m transfer to Man City collapses, three months after Ivan Toney was handed a ban

Lucas Paqueta's summer switch to Manchester City from West Ham is now off

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the Football Association for potential betting breaches, Mail Sport can reveal.

Manchester City were interested in signing Paqueta this summer after approaching his club with a £70million offer, with the Premier League champions said to have increased their interest after the injury to Kevin De Bruyne.

Yet it emerged on Friday morning that talks over the move had collapsed with sources citing ‘confidential’ issues.

It can now be confirmed that the 25-year-old Brazilian is the subject of an FA investigation over allegations of gambling on football. The specifics are yet to be revealed while West Ham nervously wait to see if it will lead to Paqueta being charged by the authorities.

Paqueta impressed in West Ham’s season-opening 1-1 draw at Bournemouth last weekend. He was substituted in the fourth minute of stoppage time, seconds after receiving a yellow card for handling the ball directly from Alphonse Areola's goal-kick.

It remains to be seen if Paqueta will line up against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Sunday following Mail Sport's revelations.

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
You can practically bet on anything in a match these days
Sometimes the bookies get it wrong in terms of pricing up certain markets and those in the know can capitalise.
They normally work of some kind of matrix system but it's not always foolproof particularly in the more obscure markets or further down the league's.
Pricing up a lower league defender at 8/1 to be carded when playing against Arsenal in an fa cup game is one such example
Another being offering odds of 28/1 on a centre forward in the national league to score first and 17/2 anytime albeit in an away game is another where they got it wrong and the bets went in.
If they are prepared to offer odds on all these markets then they can hardly gripe when they make a balls up and people capitalise.

Is there any truth in the report I read yesterday that betting on yellows is not illegal, but the FA is trying to prevent it?

Ooops! Got excited at the odds and didn't read the sentence properly!

Alex .

That price is to score and be booked at any time
11/2 to score any time
6/4 to be booked

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
Bearing in mind since joining us he's averaging a goal every six games, 13/1 seems pretty generous on him scoring at any point today.

He is around about 13/1 to score anytime and be booked today.
6/4 to be booked.
Skybet don't appear to have priced him up in the card market.

The Mail are now claiming that Paqueta may have been involved in the assassination of Princes Diana, even though he hadn't been born at the time.

If he still has his phone I'd advise young Lucas to take a boat trip off Clacton and do a Caroline Watt and 'accidentally' drop it into the briny.

True.

But only one poster is claiming the Mail is printing lies and that Paqueta should take them to court.

You have no idea what can or cannot be proven by the FA at the moment.

This is true about every single poster on this thread. That hasn’t stopped 170 posts about what will or won’t happen.

You’ve just made all of that up.
You have no idea what can or cannot be proven by the FA at the moment.

There’s an ongoing investigation which is what has been reported and is entirely true.

You fucking div.

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
The issue is that if the FA cannot demonstrate Paqueta is guilty of match fixing, Paqueta can certainly demonstrate the Mail has damaged his career to the tune of millions, especially if the deal with City was as advanced as the Mail has itself reported.

But there is a nightmare scenario for the Mail - the FA may rule actually against Paqueta on the current flimsy evidence in a reaction to the storm the Mail has itself whipped up. Then Paqueta can sue them for his entire potential earnings and I reckon he'd have a good chance of winning the case.

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
Not sure what the issue is.

The Mail was clickbait before there was actually clickbait. But pretty normal sport coverage.

It certainly is a story, as much as we wish it weren't. Though it may have kept him away from City.

Pickle are you really this stupid or do you put it on to get attention?

Disgusting rag for printing the truth about a PL footballer accused of spot fixing?

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
Looks like they've decided to run with this as far as it will take them. In that case, I very much hope Paqueta's eventual civil case totally ruins them - what a disgusting rag.

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
so it all stems from Paqueta Island

I just read the latest missive from the mail. Apparently Paqueta knows that tackling is not his strength but because of the Moyes game plan he has to do more tackling than he would expect

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
That's interesting Hammer & Pickle. so when Man City withdrew for "confidential" reasons it was nothing to do with the FA investigation.

What was it for then mate?

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
I think the first question the FA would ask is

Can you teach us that dance?

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
The horrible rag tries to create the impression that the deal broke down only when it revealed its FA investigation “exclusive”. Absolute 24-carat bilge.

Major financial blow to West Ham ?, Do fuck off

As if they haven't banked a sizeable amount already this close season

Selling our best player to bank even more money

So looks like we have him until Jan then, maybe the entire season. Sounds like a blessing!
